What to look for in an AI tutor.

Does it teach, or just tell?

Look for answer-withholding and Socratic coaching, not a solution on demand.

Is it built for mastery, and does it measure it?

Before and after checks that show real learning gain, not hours logged.

Does it re-teach what didn't stick?

Every objective has a held-back practice problem, so a weak spot gets a fresh, fully-tutored second pass rather than a re-read.

Is safeguarding built in?

A clear, tested path from a worried child to a trusted adult at the school.

Is student privacy protected by design?

Data minimisation, pseudonymity, and compliance with your region's rules.

Is it grounded in your curriculum?
